A SLIVER OF COLOR by PHOTOGRAPHER RICK FURMANEK
The storms in southern Arizona were quite active this afternoon so I trekked down toward Superior with the hopes of intercepting a large developing cell near Florence heading northeast. My original intention was to set up at Picket Post Mountain, but I never made it. The storm was traveling too fast. I pulled off on a tiny dirt road and began looking for a hint of a rainbow since the sun was peeking through another storm west of Phoenix. Suddenly, a thin vertical shaft of light appeared, offering just enough to produce a delicate bow right over our heads. While I was snapping away a bolt of lightning dropped out of the sky at just the right moment. While the bolt may not be super dramatic, I thought the overall perspective with the rainbow and the light bouncing off the rain was quite unique. The lightning was the icing on the cake. Ref. 0554

About Rick Furmanek
I've always had a passion for artistic expression with my camera. As an industry specialist in the mid-90's I served as the Operations Manager/Technical Trainer in the Apple Computer technical support division in Tempe, AZ, just when PowerMacs were hitting the scene. Self-taught in both photography and digital processing, I count myself fortunate to have had access to Adobe Photoshop almost daily for 20+ years. I hope to always remain a student of the craft. Along the journey I've been fortunate to have had my work recognized by organizations such as...
