Artist's Description

SIGNS OF LIFE by PHOTOGRAPHER RICK FURMANEK

Each spring the Ocotillo cactus shows off its bloom of vibrant reds which protrude from each of its arms. Known also by other names such as coachwhip, candlewood, slimwood, desert coral, Jacob's staff, Jacob cactus, and vine cactus, the arms of the ocotillo can reach up to 20 feet in length. They are indigenous to the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts of the arid Southwest. In this image I wanted to isolate a single bloom to reflect the intricate design of this marvelous creation. Hundreds of seeds are distributed to the desert floor each season via birds and insects ensuring its survival in this most harsh of climates. Ref. 9493

Self-taught in both photography and digital processing, I count myself fortunate to have had access to Adobe Photoshop almost daily for 20+ years. I hope to always remain a student of the craft. Along the journey I've been fortunate to have had my work recognized by organizations such as...
