Artist's Description

A VIOLENT BEAUTY by PHOTOGRAPHER RICK FURMANEK

This is an image of Murchison Falls in eastern Africa (Uganda). Robert, our guide for the photo safari, had driven like a madman for hours over some almost impassible rutty roads in order to get to this area at a specified time so we could capture the rainbow in the mist. Composition-wise, notice the initial contrast of light and dark. I like how the bow is layered vibrantly over the darker violent water beneath it, reminding me that peace and calm is truly possible in the midst of the most hectic and chaotic storms of life.

This image brings back such a flood of memories ... the wild African nights, the hippos, elephants, and crocs on the Nile ... the gorgeous birds and the wild chimps of the Budongo Rain Forest, and of course the wonderful people of Africa. Makes me want to pack my bags today. Ref. 1680

About Rick Furmanek

Self-taught in both photography and digital processing, I count myself fortunate to have had access to Adobe Photoshop almost daily for 20+ years. I hope to always remain a student of the craft. Along the journey I've been fortunate to have had my work recognized by organizations such as...
