ENDURING FORTITUDE by PHOTOGRAPHER RICK FURMANEK
You've perhaps have heard it said that there are those who are all about the destination and then there are those who are all about the journey to the destination. I guess I am more of a journey kinda guy as I am always on the look out for something eye-catching. As we were en route to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and nearing the turnoff south of Page, I saw this lone tree on a small hill. The turquoise sky really set off the scene. The position of the clouds gave it the character I was looking for. To me, it was simple, yet striking.
Note... This tree first began as a seedling that had to die, then being given directions through a process called teleonomy, it came to life and took root. In time it began to grow and thrive, enduring the elements and finally maturing into its destiny... to be a tree. There is nothing to feel sad about this lone tree here. This tree was... and is... a winner. It flourished where other trees tried and were unsuccessful. Ref. 7616
