HEAVEN COME DOWN by PHOTOGRAPHER RICK FURMANEK
While understandably avoided by some, one advantage of living in the desert Southwest during the summer season is the opportunity to photograph the Milky Way. Last night's clear skies and minimal light pollution permitted our galaxy to be seen in all its glory. This particular shot was taken looking up at the canyon walls from Fish Creek on the Apache Trail in south central Arizona. With it's summer visitation just about over I wanted to get out and work on my astrophotography. In post processing I sought to intentionally leave something to the imagination that would depict both the immensity and splendor of the heavens. This was a 30 second exposure at 3200 ISO. Ref. 7553

I've always had a passion for artistic expression with my camera. As an industry specialist in the mid-90's I served as the Operations Manager/Technical Trainer in the Apple Computer technical support division in Tempe, AZ, just when PowerMacs were hitting the scene. This exposure served to influence my move from film to digital photography. The Apple QuickTake was my first digital camera. From there I moved to Olympus and finally settled on Canon.
