Artist's Description

KILLDEER AT WORK by PHOTOGRAPHER RICK FURMANEK

This Killdeer was all about protecting her eggs. Not making much sense, she had laid them right next to a heavily-trafficked sidewalk in a small pile of gravel. Every time anyone approached the area, which was every couple of minutes, she would squeal and flutter about like she was injured attempting to lead them away from her nest. Not wanting to stress her any more than she already was, I opted to get a pose from a distance with my long lens. I loved the red circle around the eye.

Having placed warning signs of the nest, I visited several times over the next few weeks hoping for the best outcome. Wouldn't you know it, they hatched and all was well. Ref. 0536

Along the journey I've been fortunate to have had my work recognized by organizations such as...
